Showers

Showers at BVX Home Supply covers shower systems and shower doors from overstock and liquidation stock. Everything is cash and carry, with pickup by appointment at our Paterson, New Jersey warehouse. Decide the valve inside the wall first, because the trim you see has to match it.

Does a shower system come with the valve behind the wall?

A shower system may or may not include the rough-in valve, so check the listing for whether it is in the carton or sold separately. The valve is installed inside the wall, while the trim you see is the handle, showerhead and tub spout.

Trim kits are not interchangeable, so identify the valve now in your wall before you buy.

What does a diverter do on a shower system?

A diverter on a shower system lets you redirect water from the tub spout to the showerhead. Before you buy, check the listing for which outlets the system has and which parts are in the carton, then compare them with the outlets already plumbed in your wall.

What size shower base fits the space?

Match the shower base to the opening, measured from stud to stud, not drywall to drywall, and to the drain already in the floor. Base sizes run from 32 by 32 inches to 42 by 60 inches, as the table shows. Centered drains are common, but some projects need an offset drain. Measure again before you order.

Base size listed by the source Length and width in inches
Square 32 x 32 or 36 x 36
Rectangular 30 x 60
Larger rectangular 36 x 48 or 42 x 60

Checking a shower system and base at pickup

Count every part the listing names against the carton, and look the base over for cracks before you load.

See the Bathroom range for the room around it, and Shower Doors for a door on its own. The inspection guide covers what to look for before you load, and the pickup planning guide covers the vehicle for a large carton.

Frequently asked questions

What does a pressure-balanced shower valve do?

A pressure-balanced valve keeps the outlet temperature consistent when supply pressure changes, for example when a toilet is flushed elsewhere in the home. Check the listing to see whether the system you are considering uses one, since the valve is the part that sits inside the wall.

Do I have to open the wall to put in a new shower valve?

Generally yes, because replacing a valve means working inside the wall. The usual ways in are an access panel from the next room or a cut in the surround. Look at the wall behind your current valve before you decide which one applies.

How much water does a showerhead use?

A standard showerhead uses up to 2.5 gallons per minute, and a showerhead with the WaterSense label from the EPA uses no more than 2.0. Read the listing of the system you are looking at for its rated flow before you buy.

Are shower doors part of Showers?

Yes. Showers holds shower systems and shower doors together, while the Shower Doors category holds the doors alone. Go to Shower Doors when the shower is already in place and only the door is missing, then measure the opening before choosing one.
